Carnatic music on guitar

Hi,

Carnatic music styles played on guitar always takes me into a divine world. A world of prayers, blessing, nirvana.

Why?

The effect of ragas on oneself is mesmerising. If one is able to bring out the intricacies of the ragas through their mediums viz; vocals, instruments etc, it opens a door to offer prayers to the almighty.

How can one play the ragas on their instruments?

First of all, one has to listen to a variety of carnatic music, be it vocals, played on instruments etc with concentration and feel them in their hearts. This is a continuous process before anyone prepares themselves to raga playing. One has to go through the various types of exercises of swaras [notes] with full focus and bring them out without any flaws. I had the opportunity to learn carnatic music under late Sri.Subramaniam [Raju Sir] from Tripunithura in Kerala. He used to sing and I used to follow the notes by playing on my guitar. Those were the times where I truly felt the master-student relationships. Those were the times I really discovered that one can feel every note sung/played and such feeling touches the listener also.

I am attaching a small prayer to the Lord Ganesha, which is in Malahari raga.

Enjoy ragas. Enjoy carnatic music.

Hi,

In these days of technology and new applications being developed at the blink of an eye, guitarists also are benefited in a big way. New guitars with excellent playability and tones are easily available in the market. Apart from guitars, hardware support in the form of effects processors, guitar synthesisers, stomp pedals etc are providing a wide world of opportunities to bring out the best from each and every guitarist. Roland GR 55 guitar synthesiser is a great beast providing the guitarist with options beyond imagination. You imagine any tone, tweak in the necessary adjustments in the synth and you get excellent results. Although the guitar synthesisers were present from long time back, they are more and more noticed in recent times because of various platforms, forums etc which helps in knowing the products in a very usable way. I am using the GR 55 from the time it hit the markets and till date continuing with the same. Now I am able to get different instrument tones like sitar, flute, sax, strings, vibes, etc with a near about perfection of the original instruments.

I am sharing today a small recording of a music I composed about 'God's own country' Kerala, The entire music is played through the GR 55 with the sitar, flute, strings etc patches which I created.
Hope all of you will enjoy the same and offer your feedback.
